Here we go! Our second trip through the 2000s is over. Here are the comments from me and Becksta20.
galaxies: Keep Holding On by Avril Lavigne
Emotion: hope
T: This is a nice song, and it definitely does exude hope. Not the biggest Avril fan, but I enjoy this song.
B: I love this song. It does have a hopeful feeling about it. I enjoy Avril’s voice so much and have always been a fan of her music. This isn’t my favourite song from her but it’s great for this theme.
lukesurvives: I Kissed a Girl by Katy Perry
Emotion: Euphoria
T: I do respect you choosing a more unconventional emotion. That said, I’m not a fan of this song. Really poppy songs are kind of hit or miss for me, and this song just doesn’t have many elements that I enjoy.
B: This is a fun song but not my favourite Katy song. I can see the feeling of euphoria as well which was a nice change from all the sadness.
Mrkk: Viva La Vida by Coldplay
Emotion: Nostalgia
T: Coldplay is kind of hit or miss for me. I actually enjoyed this song when it first came out, but quickly grew tired of it. Now, I definitely still enjoy elements of the song, but it’s not a song I’d listen to regularly.
B: Coldplay is one of my least favourite bands. However, I do appreciate their talent and enjoy some of their songs. I don’t love this song but it’s not my least favourite Coldplay song.
kingjames13: Never Too Late by Three Days Grace
Emotion: Trauma
T: Haven’t heard this in a while, and I like it better than I remembered. It’s definitely a song that has some crossover appeal and the emotion is definitely there.
B: This is a heavy song. I liked it but not quite as much as some of the other songs posted
valgarfield: Here Without You by Three Doors Down
Emotion: sadness, hopelessness
T: Three Doors Down was probably my first favorite band as a kid.
B: This is a great song. Fun fact, Brad Arnold intended this to be a happy song, holding onto the dream of being with that person you can’t be with right now. I totally get the sad and hopeless vibe though.
BBlover96: How to Save a Life by The Fray
Emotion: sadness, hopeful, strength
T: A 2000s staple. Still love this song.
B: This song hits hard. It’s a really emotional song for me because being in either position of wanting to save someone or needing saving is incredibly difficult.
fromawindow: The Scientist by Coldplay
Emotion: regret
T: I get the emotion from this song through the lyrics. Musically, it kind of feels like a lullaby and isn’t exciting or dynamic enough to keep my attention.
B: I get it. Like I get the meaning in this song, I feel it when I read the lyrics but I literally fell asleep when I listened to this. I appreciate the talent but it just misses the mark for me.
joshgillespie: Bubbly by Colbie Caillat
Emotion: love
T: This song is adorable. I like Colbie’s sound. She’s someone that can make a cute song without it being overly processed and poppy.
B: I love this song. This is actually a song my husband would put on when I was in a bad mood because he knew it would cheer me up and make me feel loved!
chels052_: Somewhere I Belong by Linkin Park
Emotion: pain, loneliness and hope
T: Nice song. I do enjoy their earlier nu-metal sound than their later more pop-rockish sound so this was a nice homage to that.
B: Yep, those are the feelings for sure! I do like this song but it’s outdone by a couple of my faves here.
vanitysmurf: Bleeding Love by Leona Lewis
Emotion: sadness and pain
T: Leona can sing, and I love that about her. This isn’t my favorite song by her, but I like that this song is easy to sing along to and enjoy while still feeling the emotions in the song.
B: I do love a strong female voice that I can belt out to along the way. Also this song is in a movie I love (No Strings Attached)!
cheritaisdelicious: Me & the Moon by Something Corporate
Emotion: sadness, numb, strength
T: I thought I had heard this before but it turns out it was just Andrew McMahon’s voice. Like how many bands has this guy been in XD? I’ve always been a fan of his piano playing, but on the whole, this song wasn’t my favorite.
B: Cherry is back! Yet another obscure song. The lyrics in this are intense and absolutely carry those emotions. I liked this one!
carolinasteele: Aerials by System of a Down
Emotion: numbness
T: Not a bad song, but it kind of left me wanting a bit more. I know this band goes pretty hard, and I think I like that side of them a bit more. This song was definitely more on the tame side.
B: I’ve not heard this before. It definitely gives off the feeling of numbness! The song is good though not one of my favourites for the round
And our winner is…
#BBlover96! After your flop last week, you came back with a vengeance. Congrats Ms. Jocasta "Diamond" Odom!
Unfortunately, we will need to continue our journey without someone. And that person is…
#FromAWindow. Beck and I may have different music tastes, but unfortunately, one thing we agree on is that Coldplay really isn’t it. You were one of the frontrunners early on, but you won’t be a repeat winner in my music series. Thanks so much for playing friend <3
