Tim's Music Game: The Revival - Episode 10

Mar 20, 2022 by tbrown_47
This was probably the hardest round I've ever had to judge in all of the different games I've judged. Everyone came through, and I loved all of the theme submissions. Two of you are definitely getting robbed, but unfortunately, that is how the cookie has to crumble. Here are my comments:

Could You Be Loved: So my favorite Bob Marley song is also on this album haha. I lowkey love me some reggae, so this song definitely scratches that itch. The instrumentation is great, and I enjoy the lyrics as well.

Cruisin’: Love the bass in the opening. I mean this song is a Motown classic for good reason. It’s just sooo smooth.

Rhiannon: I love Fleetwood Mac. They’ve produced some hits including a song which I think is among the best songs ever made (not this one unfortunately). But not to take away from this great song. The instrumentation is so good, especially the closing guitar solo. These guys just know how to make music.

Creep: The superior Creep of the 90s. This whole album really is such a vibe, and this song is definitely one of the highlights.

Call Me: Is there a longer version because I’m pretty sure the music video cut out a lot of the song. Which is a shame because 2 minutes isn’t long enough because the song is quite good. The key change to the bridge was pretty awesome.

Back to Life: The beat and instrumentation literally give me life. Like if you aren’t moving along to this, you probably aren’t a real person. It’s just infectious.

Grace: So this is the first song in the line-up that I hadn’t heard before, so props for that. I enjoyed this a lot. It was like a weird mix of grunge and folk but still had an ethereal sound to it that made it fun to listen to.

Drift Away: lol Uncle Kracker could never. Another soulful and timeless classic.

Let the Music Play: An iconic dance bop. Love the synths and the beat. A good song to really get you moving.

#spinfur! Congrats on staying xx

Unfortunately, PennyTrationStan and StraightLoonie, you both are eliminated and high key robbed. Penny, you brought the energy to this game and served some bops. You were one of my frontrunners, and I'm sorry to see you go. Justin, I appreciate you sharing your music taste. You brought something different to the game, and I was also glad to hear your submissions. Thank you both so much for playing <33

Round 10 Theme: Genre Busters

I love artists who get creative and don't confine themselves to a specific genre. For this round, I want you to get creative and send a song that spans different genres. I'm not gonna be strict so as long as you send a few words to describe why you think it fits the theme, you'll be good. I just want some bops. As always, if you have any questions please let me know.

Also, we are DONE with free choice songs. All of you left have solid taste and made it to the final stretch for a reason. So make sure to send your best =)

Not in Love- Crystal Castles ft. Robert Smith of The Cure
This fits because a) originally, it was a new wave band  song in the 80s b) this is an electronic version by the band Crystal Castles for their 2010 album. It has Robert Smith from the Cure, a rock band. It also has a sort of uptempo pop beat to it. I definitely think this song could’ve crossed over if it played on the radio in 2010.

Rocket's Tail by Kate Bush

I was really thinking about it and this is truly a song that takes you in the completely opposite direction that you'd expect. It starts very worldly with almost celtic like chanting from a Bulgarian vocal trio and man it just goes crazy. I don't wanna ssy what or how as I think you'll enjoy the surprise but I must say its my fav song from an artist who is extremely experimental <3

A trance song at heart but has got quite a few rock elements. Is a progressive song so the start is a bit subdued but grows the more the song goes on :)

I had to go with an artist who can do it all and I think Davina Michelle can do it all, this song has a mix of indie, rock, and pop for you to enjoy
