December 21, 1972, 11:20 p.m. - Outside of the Rabbit Hole -
Jack walks out of the Rabbit Hole with Mulan in tow. “Things ought to start looking up here soon, Sheriff,” Jack looks back at her. “Once we wrap this whole thing up. We’ve got a few funerals to get through, and we can put this whole mess behind us.”
“I still don’t know, Jack,” Mulan sighs. “Maybe I’m really not right for this job.”
“You are. I told you. I meant everything I said in there.”
Mulan looks at him and gives him a weak smile. “We’ve got to pin this down, Jack. Now.”
“I know,” Jack nods. “I think we need to keep looking at Todd Firefox. I’m not buying his little Belle story. And even if I did, who’s to say he was with her all night? There’s something going on there. I can feel it. But then there’s Hare, and I’m not really buying what he’s selling either.”
“I wouldn’t,” Mulan agrees. “I still don’t trust the twins. Especially Gretel. She so keen, that one. She’s smarter than she’s letting us know. But I’m catching on.”
Jack nods. “Need a ride?”
“Uh, No,” Mulan shakes her head after thinking for a moment. “I’m going to walk. I could use the fresh air.”
“Suit yourself,” Jack gives her a small wave and walks towards his car. “Hey,” he calls after her. “Be safe out there.”
“You too,” she calls back and continues walking.
