Well, with so much time gone, a lot has changed between this assessment and the last one this series got from me. My assessments are no longer exclusive to this series, but have now spread out to cover Aydanmac01’s Descendants of the Guardians and MelindaMrskk’s One Killer blog series. I am glad you are still carrying on with this Walking Dead series, HaloKing, and don’t worry, if you also continued the X-Men series, I will assess that series as well. As I did the assessments for the other 2 series, I began to realize why it was that going every few episodes is really the best course of action. A lot can change in 2 or 3 episodes if you really know how to make a story. Doing assessments for both series also made me grow as a reviewer, so I think I have found the best way for me to get these done.
Onto this Walking Dead series, the first mid-season finale has come and gone, and honestly, this blog series has been one real treat to read, and these last 2 episodes are definitely no exception. A lot of people died, others managed to survive against all odds, and while my opinion on some people have changed, my opinions on some other people were reaffirmed. With all that changed and grown, let’s say goodbye to those we lost in Episodes 7 and 8.
In Memorium:
survivorken23 - Charlotte Ferguson – Cause of death: Bitten by walker on her shoulder in Episode 3; reanimation slain by Josh with a screwdriver in Episode 7 I said this in the time between, but as much as I didn’t care for Charlotte, her dying first set the stage for more emotional moments once a character I liked more died off. As for Charlotte herself, I just didn’t care for her at all, so I was not sad to see her die.
Jesse Ferguson – Cause of death: Stayed behind after watching his mom die to get eaten by walkers in Episode 8 In a way, we all killed Jesse. We chose not to save him, and honestly, this is probably for the best. Nothing against Jesse, but he didn’t have the strength to survive without his mother, so now he will join her in the afterlife. RyanAndrews – Josh Hunt – Cause of death: Discovered by walkers and eaten in Episode 8 From the beginning, Josh was a dead man walking. His cancer was eventually going to get the better of him. That being said, to have hung on for as long as he did and make the move to save his family from Charlotte makes me admire Josh that much more. Do not be disheartened to get eaten from walkers when you have overcome so much. Rest in peace.
Missy Hughes – Cause of death: Bitten in neck by walkers in Episode 8 and shot in the head by military soldiers I am at a loss. Out of all the people, I did not expect Missy would get killed so early. It was a real bummer she went the way she did, but Missy was a great character from start to finish. Just like Josh before her, Missy will be missed.
UnMemorium:
Kate Anderson – She somehow survived the elevator fall? I was questioning this in Episode 7 because the fall was more than 5 stories, which is normally enough to kill a person. BUT I have heard of more outlandish ways for people in real life to survive, such as one person falling without a parachute from over 33,000 feet into a forest of trees, I think the story went. So all in all, I am actually glad to see Kate still alive. But I really hope she doesn’t get in the way of Molly and Mac. Maybe there is a way for Kate and Molly to get along as Molly and Mac grow as a couple.
My Final Words: “Josh, despite your odds, you did great. Godspeed.”
“Missy, you will truly be missed.”
“Jesse, say hi to your mom for me.”
Now, here is another change that has happened. Instead of assessing my characters with the group, I will put them before the rest of the cast, which I have done in other series. That way, it will be easier to tag those who have characters in their own groups.
Charlene Lester, F, 25 (Lee’s best friend) – It was really heartwarming when she finally reunited with Lee. She has really grown on me since being in the background in the beginning. Her resourcefulness and kindness have helped her survive to get back to Lee, so now she just needs some time to grow.
Lee Carter, M, 25 (Charlene’s best friend) – Lee hasn’t had much time since the last assessment, but I am ready to see him become the leader that Rick was in the show. Lee has all the tools he needs to be a leader, and now that he’s reunited with Charlie, not much is going to stop him. He just needs a chance to show his true strength once again and I think that will come later.
Aria Luna, F, 21 – Since the last assessment, I have taken over the reins of Aria Luna because, after reading about her past, she’s really grown on me, so I chose her over Sky or Kara. In the past, I was kind of critical for Aria not really having anything except a tough exterior. However, she really becomes balanced once you find out that she actually is very capable of emotions. I don’t mind her being the badass as much anymore just as long as she keeps a balance between her emotions and her brawn.
Osiris – Kara Allard, F, 24 – I KNEW Kara would come back somehow! Kara was one tough cookie and the fact she made it all the way to this shop proved that. Kara has not disappointed since coming back into the scene, so I can only hope she will continue to truck on after this. consigliere8886 – Sky Lavenza, F, 8 – Sky has basically been a kind of child to Lee ever since Lee started protecting her. Hopefully at some point Sky can continue to grow and someday earn her independence. scooby0000 – Justyn Morin, M, 13 – With Missy out of the picture, someone who is going to have to mature for Alex’s sake is Justyn. I know Justyn is a shy character, but his best bet going forward would really just to be to grow up and help support Alex during her time of need. TheStan – Stanley Quentin, M, 43 (Payton and Adrian’s father) – Now that he’s gone out into the real world, he’s finally beginning to see what exactly it is that is going on. His fear is justified. I’d be scared too if I saw what NaOnka did and saw her driving like a maniac. But if Stanley is going to survive in the long run, he needs more self-awareness.
Julia Quentin, F, 42 ( Payton and Adrian mother) – The mid-season finale has given me a whole new respect for Julia. For the longest time, I really thought Julia was an evil drug user who always threw her kids under the bus for it. Now she is realizing that she can become a better woman, so I really hope that this wan’t just a tease and that she really gets her act together for herself and her family.
Payton Quentin, F, 17 (Daughter) – Out of the Quentin family, Payton is my favorite, and one of the best characters in this blog series. She has really outdone with the backbone she’s grown, slicing through walkers and finding a way to try to save Olivia. I hope she does not die from what we’ve seen this last episode.
Adrian Quentin, M, 13 (Son) – I really thought Adrian was a goner, but now I think he may just survive despite his broken leg. Maybe once we get past the mid-season, Adrian will have something stand out about him we haven’t seen yet. Who knows though? tkoj555 – Peter Grey, M, 16 (Ikaris’ partner) – I’ve become disappointed in Peter, BUT I don’t think he is beyond redemption. Now that he, Quinton, and Julia have found safety, he will have a chance to learn what it means to be brave, and guess who his lover found while at the hospital waking up from his coma?
Ikaris Love, M, 16 (Peter’s partner) – I’m glad he survived the incident with the car that happened in Episode 2. It showed me that Ikaris is brave. I think as this season goes on, once he and Peter catch up, he will teach Peter how to be brave and I think that will strengthen their relationship. But with Quentin back in the picture, he is going to have to learn how to lead himself without his brother. Speaking of which…
Quinton Love, M, 15 (Ikaris’ brother) – Despite his tenacious efforts, I am now more convinced than ever that Quinton will actually become a villain. Just read this line from the midseason finale:
“Quinton catches a glimpse of Peter’s apologetic eye, who had clearly avoided rescuing Quinton and Julia out of terror for his own selfish life. Quinton holds a dangerous eye contact with Peter. He vowels to himself that when they find Ikaris, Quinton will absolutely destroy their relationship together. Peter deserved no one. Quinton would not wish death upon Peter, but would shake whoever’s hand was to kill him.” – Season 1, Episode 8 “Summer’s Blood”
He would SHAKE WHOEVER’S HAND TO KILL PETER. That to me screams vengeful and begrudging in more ways than one and I feel like this will cause him and his brother to clash. MickyBoomy9 – Felix Kull, M, 23 – Well, he’s proven he can fend for himself, but I do not approve of his attitude from these previous episodes. I get that he doesn’t like Aria bossing him around, but she’s right in that he is going to have to get over his being shot in the shoulder. Like Quinton, Felix is, at this point, another person who I think could turn evil, even if it, in this case, means freeing himself from Aria. RyanAndrews - Colby Hughes, M, 36 ( Alex’s father) – He’s going to have to step up now that Missy is gone. Colby IS the father of his family, but I think even with the loss of his wife, I think he can pull through and give himself the chance to grow.
Alex Hughes, F, 16 (Daughter) – Now with her mother gone, she is going to need all the help she can get to get over this loss. She will only have Kol, Colby, and Justyn to help with this, and Colby is going to need his fair share of help too. She’s lost Mark, and now her mom and Josh. Will she end up like Jesse? I don’t know. But I want to see Alex grow from it and take her stand. Macda27 – Mac Anderson, M, 19 (Kate’s brother) – Understandably, he is unforgiving towards Sharon. He watched his sister fall down that shaft, so he is going to need to regroup himself for the future. If you don’t count Molly, I can only ask where Mac is going to go with his character after this.
Molly Smith, F, 19 (Mac’s best friend) – I know Molly has that small hope Kate is truly dead, but I just think she just wants to be with Mac. Mac is going to need her now more than ever, but Molly needs to do something for herself as well that separates her from any of Mac’s family. Molly may be strong as a best friend to Mac, but she still isn’t her own character.
Sharon Anderson, F, 40 (Mac and Kate’s mother) – Mac is in the right on this one. She has basically gotten Kate’s life hung in the balance because she cannot grasp what it truly means to love her children. This might actually be where Julia comes in for Sharon to help her out, but I don’t know. I feel like Sharon is going to live in guilt for a long time now that she knows the full meaning of what she’s done to both Kate and Mac. Coolkat – Natalie Smith, F, 18 (Olivia’s sister) – Natalie is the most overprotective sister I have seen in this series. She scoffed at the idea of Olivia’s leg being amputated. Yes, it was rightfully so, but Natalie is just gonna have to get over it for Olivia’s sake.
Olivia Smith, F, 16 (Natalie’s sister) – Speaking of Olivia, she’s shown some true strength realizing that her leg was gonna only slow Natalie down. I love how she was going to sacrifice herself for her sister to carry on living. I am hoping Olivia survives her amputation somehow because I am beginning to like her as a character. blatastic1234 – Kale Kashton, M, 20 (Charity’s brother) – He’s another person I feel could become a villain down the road. He is only out for himself and his sister from what I’ve seen so far, so I feel like he will do anything to keep the family he has alive, even if it means leaving others to die in the future. Then again, he could be somewhat like Wichita from Zombieland, especially if, deep down, he has some very human feelings beyond his cold-blooded exterior.
Charity Kashton, F, 14 (Kale’s sister) – Unlike her brother, I feel like Charity is just here to try to impress her brother. With that said, if she is, then I suspect that if she were to ever lose Kale, she would go into a state of panic. But I really hope that Charity can branch out for herself and make some new friends along the way. ThePug – Kol Finnton, M, 16 – I don’t much like his stumbling, but he’s actually pretty cool otherwise. He knows his way through the apocalypse and was there to help the Hughes family and Justyn get to his cellar. Where he will go from here, I can’t say, but I feel like in order to deal with him, I’m just going to have to get used to his stumbling speeches.
NaOnka Mixen, F, 24 – Well, 2 episodes of her and already she is insane as hell. She killed a lot of people for her survival and now has to worry about saving Stanley too. She has shown that she is a devious planner and will do anything to get to safety, but at least she isn’t as cold-blooded about it as Kale is, so that’s a plus. I still feel like she will go against Stanley at one point though.

It was a lot of effort to put in considering how much time has gone by since the last time I did one of these for this series, so it took more time than I thought it would.
