I love talking to people in other countries, and I even more love it when they think us Aussies live in huts and are all, like, Kangaroo Whisperers! :D
But, here is me clearing up a few misconceptions about Australia and Australians.. Sorry to ruin your dreams, lol.
THE WILDLIFE :
Kangaroo's are not cuddly. They will kick and punch you if you approach a wild one. Yes, they are wild.
Koala's are effing SCARY creatures with big arms and claws that GROWL and have been known to maul people.
Platypus(Platypusses?) have poisonous spurs on their feet! POISONOUS.
Yes, a Dingo can eat your BAY BAY!!
LIFESTYLE :
We do not live in huts, we have houses and apartments and such just like America, England, etc.
We are not all criminals or delinquents.
We are not all BBQ-happy... no shrimp on the barbie for me.
We have big cities too! :o
OUR ACCENTS :
We do not all say "mate" and "g'day" and "crikey!".
My accent is actually a mix of lots of things I have picked up from TV and people around me, not pure Australian.
ABORIGINALS :
Aboriginals have very interesting culture, design, etc.
They are not savages, they are just ordinary people.
They do not all have painted faces.
They can live in houses, get jobs, etc, but some of them choose to camp out in parks because we stole their land oh so long ago.
