Survivor Nicaragua Episode 8: Libertad Dynamics

Nov 5, 2010 by Philomena
It was clear that either Alina or Marty would be the first person to be voted out of the merged Libertad tribe. Sash managed to persuade the tribe to save Marty in order to "keep his word" that he would not be voted out. Not a bad tactic if he gets to the final, as it would be an argument in favour of him playing ethically.

Jane is certainly not a pathetic old hag. She has shown herself to be the most capable outdoor survivor. And now she has a mini-alliance with Chase, meaning she has a high chance of getting into the final six. But at tribal council, Marty tipped off the tribe that she would be a threat. Despite being too vocal, he did not cause himself to be voted out, and Alina went instead.

The pecking order should have been quite clear to everyone. Brenda, Sash, NaOnka, Chase, and Kelly Purple were in the top five in some order. Then it was Jane / Holly, Dan / Benry / Fabio, and Marty / Alina. Quite clearly, the lower ranking players would not have appreciated the status quo. But they could still have done something pre-emptive about it. Marty knew he was one of the two candidates, but chose the wrong approach. He tried his best to get Alina voted out, but if not for Sash's influence, he would have gone instead. And surviving that elimination simply meant he was due to go next. What he should have done was get enough people to vote out NaOnka (which they had a good excuse to do - she stole the tribe's food). That would have been six votes quite easily. To be fair, it this is easy to see in hindsight that because Jane had programmed herself to always vote for him, the other five voting for Alina would have meant the end of NaOnka in a 6-5-1 vote.

I would think that Marty's new tactic is to get Jane voted out. His first step was to warn people at tribal council that she would be a threat. Given that she won the first individual immunity challenge, this might make sense. He could get three supporters: Dan, Benry, and Fabio. Maybe Holly or even Sash wouldn't mind. Blindsiding NaOnka is another possibility, but too risky. The difference is that NaOnka is officially in an alliance and will have four people loyal to her, but Jane has only Chase to reliably protect her. Unfortunately, I can't imagine Marty succeeding in getting enough people on his side, and he will surely go next.

+5 Great read as usual philomena, and I agree , big surprise, with everything you've said ..:)  I'm very impressed with Jane as an older person her determination and strength are quite impressive.. Not a hug fan of Marty, his arrogant behavior a bit hard to take.. surly he will be the next to go... Na0nka would have been my choice given what shr resorted to, how ever with her alliance and the hidden idol... I  have a hunch we'll be seeing her around for a while longer... Love your blogs girl!!! Thanks for letting me know!!! <333

Alina was the only one there to beat Brenda and Sash
Dan/Holly/Benry are so stupid, they just used Sandra's "as long as it is not me"strategy which is very stupid in this situation. I think they will go one by one
