For those of you who don't know, I work as a day camp counselor for kids going into the 1st and 2nd grade, so like 6-8 year olds! This is my second summer doing it and it's honestly so much fun when the kids behave.
So today was "Dress As a Superhero" Day, we have been planning it for several days now. On Monday I was talking to a little girl about how I was going to be Superman since I have a shirt, socks and a cape! This little girl always cries when she gets dropped off so I'm always the one to talk to her/play a game with her to cheer her up so I completely forgot this conversation as the day went by.
Today my shift didn't start until all the kids were already at camp (since I work the max amount of hours permitted per week). I walked in as Superman and saw that the little girl mentioned before was dressed up as Supergirl and her face literally lit up when she saw me. It was the cutest thing ever hearing how she wanted to match me, my heart melted. She was my sidekick the rest of the day and followed me around.
It honestly makes my day knowing the influence you can have on someone just by being kind, especially someone young. I love knowing that I can make camp fun for my kids and brighten their days since you can only be a kid once. Being a camp counselor is just so amazing.
Sorry this blog is pointless I just needed to share.
I hate kids
I use to be a drama camp counselor though for like kids from ages 4-17 and after two weeks we did a play.
I use to literally spend like 17 hour days in a theater and then sleep for 4 hours to come back and do it again.
I loved it
I still hate kids but I liked some of the kids I worked with
