A Series of Unfortunate Events

and I really don't know what to think of it. I want to like it SO bad but... ugh. The show doesn't take itself seriously AT ALL and its annoying. WHY would they make the show so over the top cheesy/campy in every possible facet? Like i get in the books there was a slight lighthearted/campy tone AT TIMES but not at EVERY POSSIBLE MOMENT

god Neil Patrick Harris is so fucking annoying. I thought his count olaf was bad (his attempts at being menacing being the most obviously lacking) but his stephano is EVEN WORSE and he has morphed the character into a shitty caricature which is suppose to be in his "comedy acting" wheelhouse but nope its shit. plus hes got his two bff actors (that wouldnt be in this if he wasnt a producer) to play the parents. The fact that he got canon material from lemony snicket to present is pretty annoying at this point.

im attached to the books so i will watch every episode but it just makes me sad that this is shaping up to be a really horrible adaptation that is preying on the nostalgia factor + white girl netflix audience that enjoy abhorrently awful comedies like How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory. Even worse this will probably be praised by the public where the movie will continue to be trashed which i thought was fine as a kid ;_;

Ikr! I really enjoyed the books. But Neil Patrick Harris may just be worse than Jim Carrey as Count Olaf. This Violet looks the exact same as the one from the movie, and both lack any acting ability. Disappointed. It is getting rather good reviews though.

It's so good tho, I kinda like how wtf it is tbh. I don't think it did the books justice so far but I still think they did a decent job of it.

crestoflove if by "wtf" you mean the over the top campy/comedic tone that fails to deliver any actual laughs and instead turns the main villain of the series into a cheesy caricature that fails to portray any of the roles given then sure its great

sure the events in the book are actually happening in the show but its HOW they are happening that i have a problem with

brayden_ honestly child acting is so hit or miss so im fine with the largely mediocre child acting (this might be coming from a long history of watching once upon a time where henry who makes klaus and violet look like grammy winners in comparison)

also jim carrey in over the top cheesy roles >>>>>>>> neil patrick harris and its not even comparable

(off the top of my head my fav "over the top cheesy role" actor tho is mike myers)

and im not shocked its getting good reviews. the standard for a "comedy" tv series nowadays is so appallingly low like just look at cbs' lineup

Lol I laugh at it, I'm just happy that they actually made it so instead of bitching about every little thing. I'm just enjoying it. Splozojames50

crestoflove idk i just dont find this brand of lazy cringey-cheese funny so thats what makes me upset because i am super invested in this series.

at the end of the day sure i am happy that we have this at all and the extra canon material we are getting is cool but its HOW they are presenting it that i am upset with
