Challenge #1

"Barbenheimer"

Hello, Top 21, welcome to your first challenge of this season! For today's challenge you will be in pairs. And how were you paired up? the number closest to you (the one I let you mail me) will be your partner, which means the last no. on board will not be having a pair, and will be working solo.

For your first challenge, we are portraying two contrasting themes inspired by the Internet phenomenon "Barbenheimer." Each pair will embody the essence of two blockbuster films - "Barbie" and "Oppenheimer" - simultaneously released. The challenge is to create a collage that capture the distinct and contrasting vibes of both films.

The pair of you must decide who will put his/her own spin of:
(1) Barbie - embracing the essence of Barbie's world. The styling will be glamorous, vibrant, and full of color, reflecting Barbie's iconic fashion and lifestyle. The poses should exude confidence, elegance, capturing the spirit of Barbie as a symbol of empowerment and individuality.

(2) For the model representing the "Oppenheimer" - the photoshoot will take a more dramatic and intense approach. The styling will be edgy, dark, and mysterious, drawing inspiration from the powerful and complex character Oppenheimer portrays. The poses should convey strength, intensity, and a sense of enigma, reflecting the depth of Oppenheimer's character and storyline.

Coherence, Communication, and Cooperation are the 3C's you will be needing. Discuss "who's who", only one of you will be posting the collage, so think about it. I'll be posting the FAQs for the Pairs/Groups challenges. For the model working solo, since you don't have a partner - you must post two photos (in a collage as well), each representing the films.

Since this will be your first time, you will have 48 HOURS to complete the task. Below are your pairings. Goodluck!

FAQs for Pair/Group Challenges:

1.) I have talked to my teammate/s, is that enough for me to avoid deductions?
- NO. The least thing you could do is to find yourself a photo and submit it to your teammate/s.

2.) My teammate/s did not talk to me and my time is running out, what should I do?
- Post your own creation of a collage with both of your member/s on it. Remember, they will still be getting deductions because they did not submit their own photo.

3.) One of my team member/s chose to submit individually, what will we do?
- You must still pursue the collage with your original member/s and pick the photo for the one who submitted individually. Only the member who submitted individually will get a deduction, failure to submit a complete-members collage will deduct the whole team/pair.

4.) We are late because my teammate/s did not message/reply quicker?
- Late submission is late submission.

Judges,
For this challenge it was somewhat of am easy buy difficult thing to feat as I have not seen either barbie nor oppenheimer even though I would love tobsee both of em. But from the movie pictures I had chosen these two pictures to embody the movies.

As you know I had to work by myself for the challenge which was great for me. For the barbie movie it would be the picture on top for me which embodies a version of a Ken and the oppenheimer photo would be the one on rhe bottom and I chose this photo due to the fact that I believe there's something going on but I don't know what so mysterious is what comes to mind. Thanks for looking judges.

Judges,
As a team we were very cohesive, starting by sending each other possible Barbie photos as we both thought our models had more Oppenheimer-fitting photos. Once we had picked our favorite Barbie photo, we sorted through Oppenheimer photos for Xu Meen to see what we thought fit best with the selected Hunter Barbie photo.

Both models standing in front of a grey background highlights the contrasting emotions the models were able to convey. Hunter, being flirty, gleeful, and radiant. Xu Meen, being mysterious and unsettling, yet confident and bold. Together, they resemble the contrasting vibe and messages of the films. Barbie, being feel-good and delivering the message of feminity, self-love, and radiance. From the photo, this is indicative in Hunter's styling such as minimal makeup, embracing natural body hair, and choice of a simplistic background to let her grab the spotlight. Meanwhile, Oppenheimer touches on themes of hubris and error and ingenuity, depicting the gravity and significance/consequence that came with building the atomic bomb that the photo highlights.

1. Anja Rubik as Crazy "Barbie" - Barbie is a film that talks about the role of women in society and how they are shaped to be perfect and fit into a specific model of good mother, good wife, good girlfriend, good daughter. It can never be bad or run away from standards. And in the film, a world with various barbies is presented, representing various types of women that exist in society. One of these Barbies is the one that malfunctioned, which is "weird" and nonstandard. She is cut off from society for it. And I'm here representing that Barbie, demonstrating that being weird and different is also amazing and part of it. We have to be free to wear, wear and do whatever we want. Anja Rubik is just that, and my pose, as well as the look and colors I chose to wear, represent that. The essence of the Barbie movie is about being who you are, and being respected for it. And it suits Anja Rubik, who from what you met in NTM cycle 19, is always a box of surprises.

2. Tanya Dziahileva as "Oppenheimer" - Tanya is representing Oppenheimer in her photo. The photo is dark, mysterious, yet has a sense of melancholy. I think this perfectly fits the description of what we were assigned for Oppenheimer.

==Ming Xi & Sora Choi==

Challenge #1: Barbenheimer

From the moment the pairs were assigned, Xi and I both knew instantly who we were to represent. Xi from her running history with the show knows how to give beautiful looks, show off her elegance, and Sora knows how to get deep into things, and look a bit edgy.

So for this challenge we have a parallel of two women living in their own worlds.

Xi is representing Barbie on the left, Barbie is a sign for woman empowerment, and in the movie we experience the land of Barbie showing what the Barbies can become. We have a president, a mermaid, a supreme court justice, a nobel prize winner, etc etc. Dipping into Xi’s asian heritage, her Barbie is an empress. Standing strong and bold, a leader who gazes out waiting to hear the calls of her people. There’s also a sense of doll-ness in this empty white void, she is perfect, she’s proper, and she belongs in the Barbie world.

Meanwhile in the world of Oppenheimer, Oppenheimer constantly felt the pressure of paranoia, even from the beginning when he tried to poison his mentor, and it backfired greatly. Even after realizing the destruction of the nuclear bomb was a bad idea he did it, however it made him more paranoid as he didn’t want his creation to be used to destroy even more, to a point where his personal life and marriage was used against him to make him seem as a communist apologizer. In Sora’s photo she’s constantly watching her back, but there’s still a mystery surrounding her as she also seems like she’s in thought. She’s not scared but she knows to watch her back and have an edginess to her glare.

The dichotomy in both their poses represent different things, but together it perfectly represents this film double feature enjoy!

1. Jonathan is a perfect representation for Barbie, and honestly also Ken. The styling and bright colors of clothes gives Barbie, as well as the confidence-exuding pose. This photo just screams elegance and makes you want to buy him in your nearest toy store.

2. Soo Joo’s representation of Oppenheimer is the epitome of enigmatic. It’s giving dark, it’s giving edgy and it also symbolizes something dark that’s about to come to light (LITERALLY HEHE).

Guinevere Van Seenus and Jeana Turner ~

When we saw the challenge, we instantly knew that we had to represent two looks/characters that could fit within the realm/universe of Barbie and Oppenheimer.

Guinevere is seen wearing Prada, an elegant sophisticated brand, and posing on top of a pink car, paying homage to the one Margot Robbie's barbie character is seen driving in the movie. Guinevere is spreading her hands on top of the vehicle owning every inch of her beauty, individuality, and the world that she aims to explore as she waits for Ken to show up to start the engine.

Jeana is showing the complete opposite of the Barbie aesthetic with her photo. Instead of looking elegant and feminine, she is showcasing an androgynous look, posing confidently, and affirming her position within a society that didn't conform much to womens rights during that period. Indeed, Jeana could fit in an Oppenheimer movie as a character for delivering such edgy, intense, and bald/powerful pose and style.

Team Mia & Kai.

In our collage Mia is representing the Oppenheimer's vibe with an old-fashioned, while giving a dark & and mysterious aura with her look and her cold intense stare that's saying 'read my face and too see what I’m saying” is a reflection of Robert Oppenheimer's. She has used her simple look here as an advantage to highlight her inner strength and the intensity of her personality.

Kai is looking glamorous and sophisticated dressed stylishly like he just stepped out of Barbie's movie while elegantly posing in confidence while the whole connection he is having with this white horse is showcasing his empowerment and individuality. And the ambience here is adding more fun loving color and detail to this shot.

"Barbenheimer" by Chanel Iman and Alton Mason.

#Chanel choose the original signature colour of Barbie for the atmosphere of the photoshoot and also for her look. The first thing you see from Barbie is PINK so we wanted to make people instantly understand what she is representing here. The pose is showing a doll in movement serving a confident and elegant high fashion style. The face is following the body expression: fiercely stunning. In overall she escapes from the stereotypes when she appears more dynamic and self-confident trying to tell you a history of how she wants to use the leadership of women and change the world. The new age of Barbie has come to stay without stereotypes nor compromise just more free than ever.

#Alton is introducing the dark strong and mysterious concept of Oppenheimer in his look and specially with your face expression. There you can feel that he wants to tell you something but at first look maybe you cannot figure out easily what it is. The strength, intensity and sense of enigma are showing up when he embraces the chains of his outfit. With that Alton is serving a restrained but powerful pose. Here we tried to explore the concept to create a dramatic narrative, analyzing the whole photo - focusing on the face, outfit and his pose holding the chains - you can understand that Alton is going through a chaotic scenario but he recognizes how strong he is and he will try to create something to change his currently situation, even if this new creation could be extremely dangerous.

Violet Chachki and Duckie Thot

Violet is portraying Barbie. One of the many trademarks of Barbie is the color pink and that is everywhere in this photo. Pink is on the dress, the couch, the walls, pink is the flavor. Violet is also paying homage to the original 1950’s Barbie from Mattel giving its dramatic and pin-up style and glamour.

Duckie Thot is Oppenheimer. The rugged and harsh posing and styling represent the dark nature and the movie. It’s eerie and provocative just like the film and era of the film. Through this photo Duckie alone is commanding and scary.
