There are only two seasons in Evergreen, Washington: Winter and Not-winter. With the consistent snow and Big Ed's Christmas Tree Farm, it feels like Christmas year-round and the citizens of Evergreen tend to just embrace it. In fact, some of them turned a profit from it. As a result, Evergreen has become a hot-spot travel destination for those who need a little Christmas spirit in their lives.
But for those who grew up in Evergreen, skiing and ice-skating were just hobbies, Christmas lights were just lights, and Evergreen was just home.
That is until our group of young hopefuls went their separate ways after high school. In the two years since graduation, most of the group hasn't seen each other, save for posts on social media or the rare run-in. Some went to college, some didn't. Some kept in contact, some didn't. But now, it's once again the most wonderful time of the year, and the group has agreed to return to town over winter break to spend time with their families and reconnect with old friends and flames.
In Evergreen, Big Ed's Christmas light display shines like a beacon in the sky, calling everyone home for the holidays.

Maddy:
*Maddy pulls up to her home after a two and a half hour drive from Seattle, happy to have made it home in one piece. Although she has plenty of experience driving in snow, she had been dodging tourists in minivans with zero experience on slick roads and not enough sense to call an uber. She parks on the street because her parents drive-way is full and gets out of her car, admiring the decorating her parents did for the season*
*Maddy smiles, a bit surprised at how happy she is to be home. She only spent a week here in the Summer before going abroad and then back to school. Did she visit her parents this semester? Maybe on a weekend? She can't remember. She grabs her bag, puts it on her shoulder, and heads up the walkway to the front door*
*sets down the last plate on the dining room table*
-calling back to his mom-
It *is* the good china Mom, plates with the elephants, I know what I'm doing!
*he grabs the napkins, placing them neatly next to each plate, followed by the silverware*
Jack's Mom turns the corner: "Oh honey, I know you do. I'm just excited is all. I haven't seen Ophelia in ages."
*Jack nods*
I know. Me either.
*he looks over towards the door, anxiously awaiting O's arrival*
*Aiden drives into his hometown, having had a car rented for him by his parents following his flight from New York City, his seven bags of luggage are stuffed into the back as he begins to the turn the corner on to his driveway. Seeing his Mum in the window he smiles and waves. Upon getting out he sees his neighbour Maddy, quickly looking away to not draw her attention*
Maddy:
*Maddy walks up to her parents door, swiveling through the keys on her keychain until she finds the right one*
*On her way she sees Aiden arrive home, and considers waving, but unlocks her front door and steps inside instead. She throws her heavy bag down on the floor*
*O groans as she walks out to a car and she nods at the driver getting in and she turns to him as he closes the door she looks up at him*
Can you just please take me home and tell my mom I’m not feeling so well..
Driver: Unfortunately, Ms. Hartley your mother expected that maneuver and told me to hand you this
*He passes her an envelope*
A howler as she called it and she says to drive you to the Hardy’s
*She looks at the envelope and opens its reading it and smiles to herself before looking out the window thinking about her last time at the Hardy residence*
~Brief Flash of her walking out from the resident visibly upset:
*She snaps out of it looking at the Hardy’s estate*
*Ember rushes off the airplane with one bag on her left shoulder, another in her hand and her suitcase trailing behind her. She stops to take a deep breath in and look around*
Tally
*closes the door to her small car, she plugs in her phone to the aux and begins her mindless scroll through her "Feminazi" playlist*
Who am I today?
*she settles on a song and puts her car in drive, beginning the journey to Evergreen Mall*
