It's a slip of the tongue in which a word that the speaker was subconsciously thinking about is substituted for the one that he or she meant to say.
"For seven and a half years I've worked alongside President Reagan. We've had triumphs. Made some mistakes. We've had some sex... uh... setbacks." -A Freudian slip by President George H.W. Bush
Basically thoughts that you repress unconsciously slip out. Or is it just an accident? Learned about it in psych the other day and I have mixed feelings. After all Sigmund Freud was a crazy fucking guy..
everyones said something they didnt mean thats why he thought of this theory but the question is if they are actually repressed thoughts or just words that sounded alike/popped randomly into mind etc..
hmmm. whenever i screw up i'm going to have to remember if it was because of a repressed thought. i'll let you know how that goes haha. I do say a lot of things i dont mean to say =ing lots of LOLZ , but idk if its because of repressed thoughts, or me just being an idiot LOL
he's an interesting guy for sure!! I believe some his theories but not all of them. He basically thought everything revolved around sex and that's just not true lol I believe some of his thoughts on how childhood basically shapes who you are, you can change a lot but ur childhood shapes you. I think the Freudian slip can be true but not all of them are repressed thoughts .But I don't believe everyones EVERY actions and feelings are a result of repressed sexual feelings at all.
As a psychology student I think Freud is a complete idiot.. but Freudian slips do happen, it's just someone saying what they're thinking instead of what they planned to say.
