Episode 2: “Appearance”

The West End Music Theater was quiet at this time of day as it was normally more active in the evening, but people still had their own private performances at the auditorium.  This theater was where Saara was now after she dropped Shawn off at medical school.  Job application in hand, she had taken the time she had alone to finish it out and have ready to hand to her employer.  She walked a while down the hallways to an office that read the name “Christine Torrance”, the person who Saara was told was the CEO of this theater.  She knocked the door to her office.

Christine: Come in!

Saara opened the door to see a rich-looking woman in her early 50’s.  This woman, Christine, was finishing up some paperwork.  She looked to met Saara’s eye.

Christine: What business do you have in this theater?
Saara: (produces her job application) I came to turn in my job application.  Here you go!

Saara hands her job application to Christine, who nods her head in approval.

Christine: Alright!  And you are?
Saara: Saara!  I’ve auditioned for three reality singing competitions.
Christine: I know, and you have failed all three times.  However, I have heard your voice.  Pretty good!  I’ll look over your job application.

Another person came into Christine’s office, this time a man in his mid to late 40’s, and right away, Saara’s heart sank.

Christine: Oh!  Do you two know each other?
Saara: No!
Man: (interrupts) Yeah you do, actually.  You’re the woman who keeps failing my daughter!
Christine: Well isn’t this interesting!  Seems we have a case of rivalry going on here!  Tell me, are you applying for this theater too?
Man: No, but I’m here to pick up a job application for my daughter Addie.
Christine: (beaming) Well splendid!  The more the merrier!  I’ll be waiting for this Addie’s job application, and when that comes, I can interview her and Saara here together!  I’ll call you both when I am ready to schedule your interview.

Saara’s heart sank.  She really did not want to deal with Addie again, and now they were going to be interviewed together.

--End Scene—

Deep in a jungle, a gorilla rushed for its life, knocking everything it could out of its path.  Temperatures were much too hot for even a rainforest.  The gorilla desperately for paths it could take to try and get to safety.  Flying by the gorilla were gunshots that missed the gorilla by inches as well as flaming tree branches that fell to the ground.  The only thing that gorilla knew was that it had to either get out of the jungle or die.  It did not help that the gorilla could barely see where it was going.

After some time, the gorilla hit uneven ground, lost its balance, and began tumbling down an inclined slope.  Each thud the gorilla made made it think it was its last.  After a while, the gorilla finally landed and stopped.  It got up and checked its surroundings to find a pond filled of purple liquid and a plethora of black trees.  The gorilla walked up to the pond only to smell that it was poisonous.  Drinking that would surely kill it.

As the gorilla began to walk away from the poisonous liquid, the trees came to life and out of the darkness came Zela.

Zela: There you are!  Alright, my lovely plants, we have her cornered!  Feed!

The trees suddenly came to life and slowly made their way to the gorilla, now cowering in fear as it knew its life was about to end.  The gorilla backed up until it was just inches from the poisonous liquid.  A tree branch reached out to try and grab the gorilla, but the gorilla couldn’t keep its balanced as it tried to avoid the trees.  It fell backwards into the pond and made a huge splash.  When the gorilla came out, it was no longer a gorilla but now Katalia, splashing aimlessly as the poisonous fluid began to eat away at her.  Katalia could hear a sadistically sinister laugh come out of Zela’s mouth.  This laughter filled Katalia’s mind like a mosquito buzzing in her ear.

--End Scene—

Katalia jetted awake and found that she was not in a forest drowning in poisonous liquids.  The force of nightmare got her screaming, and within seconds, she saw Addie, Kitty, and Spencer rush into the room to help her.

Addie: You’re alright Katalia!  You’re fine!
Spencer: I would love to know what the fuck is happening and why we even brought her to this place to begin with.  I still think she should have been sent to the hospital.

At that moment, another person entered the room, this time being an elderly woman who had a mysterious aura to her appearance.

Woman: I’m so glad to see you’re awake!  I am Vixella Vox, and this is my home.  I was going the direction of the movie theater anyway, so it’s lucky Kitty here told me what had happened.
Katalia: (turning his gaze to Kitty) Is this true?
Kitty: You bet it is!  It was either have her come or have the hospital send you to some mental institution.
Vixella: In any case, what you’re going through is perfectly normal, Ms. Katalia.  I can see the sweating has already stopped, which is good.  What you’re going through is a change that be anything beyond your wildest dreams.
Katalia: Then this must be pretty “wild” then, because that nightmare I just had was torture!
Vixella: That is to be expected.  In time you’ll understand.  For now, just take it easy and rest.  I will bring you some food.  (then turns to Spencer)  What was that movie these girls were going to see again?
Spencer: Um, Annihilator?  Why?
Vixella: (gives Spencer a Delphic smile) Okay.  I’ll make sure they get their tickets worth.  Spending $39 just to have your friend collapse just simply won’t do at all.

--End Scene—

Beckett, Daniel, and JJ sit in the library in between classes, studying on their respective homeworks.  Beckett has a covered bottle of soda to help keep him company, but JJ and Daniel didn’t bring anything to eat or drink.

Daniel: I can’t believe you still want to eat or drink after our breakfast at that diner.
Beckett: Well what can I say?  A man’s gotta eat!
JJ: Well, one, you aren’t even eating when you have a soda by you.
Beckett: Wasn’t in my contract to care.
JJ: I’ll be sure to keep that one in mind.
Daniel: Can you two stop bickering please?  We need to study here!
Beckett: No promises.

Daniel rolls his eyes.  He always knew Beckett meant well, but sometimes he had felt Beckett was too much of a knucklehead for his own good.

Beckett: So what do you make of that Alycia chick?
Daniel: She’s great!  Not that I’m interested in her or all since I’m gay.
JJ: Yes, we all know that, Daniel!  As for me, I feel like she should adjust to the college life a little.  She still hasn’t hit 18 yet!
Beckett: What?  You afraid someone’s gonna try to get in her pants before her birthday?
Daniel: Alycia knows better than that boo.  If she was smart enough to skip a grade, I’m pretty sure she has passable street smarts too at worst.

All of a sudden, Daniel saw a strange color come out of his textbook.  It looked almost like a calm, kindling campfire, except it was burning anything, and the color of it wasn’t a color normally seen in a fire.  It looked green, which Daniel thought to be bizarre since his textbook was red.

JJ: Hey, bud!  You okay?

Daniel awoke from his trance to notice JJ and Beckett staring at him.  He looked back down at his textbook to see the green “smoke” gone.

Daniel: Yeah, I’m fine.  I could have sworn though my textbook changed color!  Maybe I’m just seeing things.
JJ: It’s the boredom.  Don’t let it get to ya.
Daniel: Yeah, yeah, sure.

The thought of that green substance being emitted from his textbook did not leave Daniel’s mind.  He needed to know what was going on with him and fast.

--End Scene—

It was lunch hour at med school, but Shawn didn’t really find himself to be very hungry.  Instead, he was studying his notes he had taken in his classes, trying to think of how to best approach his work.  He closed his eyes, thinking about Saara.  He wondered if she was doing okay at the West End theater that she was applying to.  He couldn’t quite place, but something about Saara trying to turn things around even after her repeated failures comforted him somehow.

As he was thinking of Saara’s failures though, he thought of his own past.  He never told anyone, not even Saara, but the fact that Saara kept failing to Addie made him think of what had happened in his own past.  He could still remember his time trying to find someone to house him.  For a time, he felt like he had found a stable home, but he didn’t really feel like he fit in, so left he did.  He opened up a pocket of his backpack and produced a picture.  In that picture, he saw three people, two older people and then one child who was younger than him.  The child was several years younger than he was.  He had wondered how she was doing now.  He sighed heavily, his emotions starting to become stirred.

Shawn: What have I done?

--End Scene—

Unknown Voice: WAKE UP YOU DAMN CUNT!

Eyes began to open ever so slightly.  The sight was a blur, but it seemed dark.  The eyelids closed back.

Unknown Voice: WAKE UP YOU DAMN CUNT!

This time, the eyelids burst open, recognizing this as Zela’s bedroom.  Zela shot up into an upright position.

Zela: WHERE IS THAT GODDAMN PHONE!?
Unknown Voice: WAKE UP YOU DAMN CUNT!

Zela’s eyes turned to see a pile of clothes on the floor next to her bed ahead of her.  She had forgotten to dispose of her dead boyfriend’s clothes, as well as those of the person he cheated on her.  It was his clothes from where that alarm was ringing, chiming “WAKE UP YOU DAMN CUNT” every 10 seconds.  Zela dove into the pile of clothes and quickly retrieved the phone from a pocket of the jeans it had resided in.

Phone: WAKE UP YOU DAMN CUNT!

Zela rushed out of the window, onto the balcony, and threw the phone the phone full force as it kept calling Zela a “DAMN CUNT” over and over again.  She held her palm outward and within a matter of seconds, the trees all wrestled to ruin the phone, finally silencing it for good.  Once that phone was destroyed, she made a clenched fist and her plants settled down once more.

Zela: TRY CALLING ME A CUNT NOW, BITCH!

Silence answered her.  Not even the air itself made a sound.  After ten seconds, Zela headed back into her bedroom and turned her attention back to the clothes that were lying on the floor.  She got a plastic basket used to carry her laundry and threw the clothes into the basket.  Once she was sure everything was in, she carried the basket down the stairs.  The stench of these clothes made her eyes water.  She had guessed that maybe her ex-boyfriend had gone out to drink and brought his whore back home that way.  She didn’t care though.  Her top priority was disposing of those clothes that had been lying right in front of her bed.

She carried the basket to the living room of her mansion and set the basket down by the fireplace.  However, when she checked for firewood, there wasn’t any.  She had known it was all used up by her two-timer.

Zela: Of course he did.

Zela marched outside and made a right into a huge garden where her plants lived.  She didn’t need her darling plants to sacrifice their lives to get the job done.  She only needed dead wood, something she knew her trees had shed untold amounts of.  She spread her arms out and her trees came back to life again, ready to do her bidding.

Zela: Darlings!  I need you to gather me some of your discarded wood!

Her trees gathered a generous pile of wood and set it down in front of Zela.

Zela: Thank you, my darlings.  As you were!

The trees resumed their normal spots and grew lifeless again, then Zela picked up some of the dead wood from the pile and brought it inside and into a rack where she had kept her firewood.  She then threw some of the firewood she had just put on the rack into the fireplace and got a match, struck it to light a flare, and threw it in to start a roaring fire.  Once her fire got going, she turned her attention back to the clothes she had carried downstairs.  She took the basket, grabbed it by the handle, and threw the clothes out of the basket and into the fire.  Once those clothes began to burn, she set the basket down, walked to a nearby cooler, and got a beer out and opened it, taking a swig out of the beer as the clothes burned in the fireplace.

Zela: I love a good ending.
???: Um, Mademoiselle!

Zela turned around to see that an aging man that she knew to be her butler Jarvis had come into her mansion.

Zela: What do you want, butler?
Jarvis: There is someone who wants to visit you, it would seem.
Zela: Ugh!  Can it wait Jarvis?  I’m in the middle of something here!
Jarvis: I see.  I will tell them to wait until you’re done, mademoiselle.

Jarvis bowed and Zela motioned for him to go.  Then she turned back to fire, continuing to drink her beer as the clothes she had thrown in continued to burn.

--End Scene—

Alycia and Brooke had finished their first classes for the day and were now driving out of town towards a hospital.  Alycia had known Brooke longer than anyone else, but she still didn’t know all of what had been going on in her life.  Brooke didn’t really go into too many details with her, but Alycia counted herself thankful that she even knew anything at all.  After a while, they came into the city of Albany, which is where the hospital Brooke needed to go to was.  Due to some heavy traffic, it took another 10 minutes before the girls finally arrived at the hospital.

Brooke: Thank you Alycia!
Alycia: Anytime Brooke!  I just hope your mother is doing okay.
Brooke: (giving Alycia a faint smile) I hope so too.
Alycia: Do you want me to stay in Albany while you visit?
Brooke: (shaking her head) No.  I know a bus that will take me back to Underwood.  I don’t need you picking up after me all the time.  But thank you for being my friend.
Alycia: Of course!  Stay safe, you hear?
Brooke: I’ll try to.

Brooke got out of the car and closed the door.  Once Alycia saw Brooke walk away, she grew considerably more solemn.

Alycia: May God watch over and keep you safe, Brooke.

--End Scene—

After waiting in the lobby for about 30 minutes, one of the female doctors finally comes out into the lobby.

Lady: Brooke Lively?
Brooke: Here!
Lady: Your mother is waiting to visit.  Room 404, as usual.  We’ll take you there now.
Brooke: Okay thanks!

Brooke followed the doctor to an elevator and they both got inside.  The doctor then pressed the number “4” button and the elevator went up to the 4th floor.  After they got out of the elevator, the doctor led Brooke to the right, the direction Room 404 was in.  The even numbers were on Brooke’s right while the odd ones were on her left.  The doctor stopped once they reached the second door on their right.

Lady: Here we are, Ms. Brooke Lively!  Your mother is waiting for you.
Brooke: Thank you doctor!

Brooke walked inside Room 404 and saw an ailing woman in her late 40’s with an IV tube attached to her.  This was a trip Brooke had taken many times before, but every time she made this visit, it never got any easier.  For Brooke, seeing her mother in the condition she was in always ate away at her, and she didn’t know how long she had left to live.  Who would she have to turn to should she ever lose her mother?  She didn’t think she could ever guess.

Brooke’s Mom: Come here, my dear Brooke.

Brooke approached to the side of her mother’s hospital bed, taking a seat on a chair propped next the bed.

Brooke: Mom…
Brooke’s Mom: Brooke, darling.  How was your first day of college?
Brooke: It was good.  But…
Brooke’s Mom: I’m proud of you, my sweet Brooke.
Brooke: Mom.  How are you doing?

Brooke’s mother closed her eyes for a few moments.  The expression on her face was somber, almost as if it gave Brooke everything she needed to know that her mother’s condition has, at the very least, grown worse.

Brooke’s Mom: I’m dying.
Brooke: (gasps) What!?  How long did they give you to live?
Brooke’s Mom: Oh dear.  I don’t want to have to worry about that.  Just do well in school for me.
Brooke: I will, but mom…
Brooke’s Mom: It’s quite alright dear.
Brooke: No mom!  I will never stop worrying about as long as you’re still breathing!

Brooke’s mother slowly lifted her arm and grabbed onto Brooke’s wrist.  In the meanwhile, she looked Brooke in the eye.

Brooke’s Mom: No, dear daughter.  The moment you let me get the best of you is the moment you really suffer.  Do not grieve over me.  I will always be with you.

A tear begin to fall from Brooke’s eyes as her emotions begin to overwhelm her.

--End Scene—

Alycia was halfway back to Underwood from Albany where she had dropped Brooke off to be with her mom.  She had been wishing that Brooke would have let her wait in Albany, but she knew Brooke wasn’t having any of it.  The traffic was heavy getting out of Albany, but after she got out of Albany, it’s been pretty smooth sailing for her on the way back to Underwood.

Alycia took a deep breath as she tried to get her thoughts together.  However, as she exhales, the windshield in front of her began to fog.

Alycia: That’s weird.

All of a sudden, Alycia could feel a bump and that’s when she realized something went really wrong.  She couldn’t see in front of her, so she didn’t know where she was going, but she was still able to see her corner mirrors and back mirror.  She had fallen off the side of the road.  What happened only took ten seconds, but to her, it felt like years.  She felt a thud as she rocked forward.  Her airbag opened, cushioning the force of the blow her car had sent her.

Alycia: Ugh!  What happened?

Alycia took some time to regain her bearings, but she managed to get her seatbelt off and got out of the car to inspect the damage.  Because her breath had blinded her, she had hit a tree.

Alycia: Fuck!  Fuck fuck fuck fuck FUCK!

Just as Alycia was finished cursing to herself, a heavy feeling suddenly swarm her head like moths to a flame.

Alycia: Wha- what?

Alycia stumbled away from the car, trying to grab onto her head, but the heavy-headedness only grew in intensity.  Alycia got on her knees and collapsed, losing her consciousness.  Just as she was losing her consciousness though, she heard someone call out her name.

???: ALYCIA!  ALYCIA!

Alycia couldn’t discern who that was, but it was definitely a male.  All the same, it was no use.  Alycia’s lights were out as her eyes closed.

Questions:
What do you think will happen with Saara after her scene with Christine and Addie’s father?: I feel Christine will be immensely proud of herself, considering Saara has kind of kick-started it in a way.
What kind of person is Christine and how will she play into the story?: I definitely believe she's a sort of Anti-Heroine who isn't on either side, just a neutral character defending her own.
Why did Zela appear in Katalia’s nightmare?: They both share the 'Nature' Connection, perhaps Zela will be of an influence to Katalia in the future.
Thoughts on Vixella’s introduction: Obviously the sort of mentor, she knows quite a bit upon the Powers and Other who're involved. I'm interested in knowing how she came to know Zela.
How do you think Daniel’s aura powers will grow?: I honestly have no clue upon this one! Haha
What clues could Shawn’s picture hold to Shawn’s past?: I feel like he did something that he regrets and that'll be having more insight in future.
Who has come to visit Zela and what will it mean for her story arc?: Possibly Police, Relatives, Vixella?
Thoughts on Brooke’s visit with her mom: Brooke is becoming a troubled girl and if her Mother were to die, I feel she may question who she truly is.
Who has come for Alycia and how will Alycia’s powers manifest?: I feel her powers may become uncontrollable depending on how she uses it, the person however may try to take advantage of her and her powers?
Fav/Least Fav Characters: I'm liking Vixella & Brooke along with Katalia. I'm interested in seeing Zela explored more aswell haha.
Any predictions on what will happen in future episodes?: I see more backstory upon Zela, Brooke, Vixella & Shawn being revealed and possible conflicts upon Alycia's powers
