Haldo, everyone! From watching most of the seasons of the Amazing Race, I'm looking forward to yet another fantastic one. I am disappointed, however, at the seriously lacking cast in a certain respect....We've got SO MANY crappy dating mactor teams....I don't know if it's just me, but I *hate* watching the dating couple fall apart and yell at each other, then get into a crying match and vow never to see each other again after the race. It's really frustrating and takes away from the game, IMHO. Then again, I watch reality TV for the strategy, not so much for the drama...
Teams that I *am* particularly impressed with, however, are Herbert and Nathaniel, Maria and Tiffany and Marcy and Ron.
Herbert and Nathaniel are former Globetrotters and seem like genuinely nice people - hopefully they can combine their athletic prowess, interpersonal skills and the ability to be cool under pressure to go far.
Maria and Tiffany are a bit of a wildcard...They could do extremely well or fall flat on their face. The poker playing could theoretically give them the ability to think under pressure that is key to winning the race, but the question is how well they'll get along with the other players. We've seen in other shows (Annie on The Apprentice and Jean-Robert in Survivor) that poker players can often rub people the wrong way for, if nothing else, their profession. (Note: I really liked Annie and I think she got a bad rap. Jean-Robert, on the other hand..) I still think they'll go far, though.
Marcy and Ron - I'm really hoping that they can break the curse of the mature couple. There's always at least one older couple on each season, and the best placing for that couple has been 4th (Meredith and Gretchen). Still, they're generally able to maintain sanity where all others are losing their heads - I'd really like to see them win. They may be just feisty enough to get to the finals.
