Amazing Race: AIRPORT DRAMA. A lot of people used to complain back in the day because during its peak up to 1/3 of each episode was dedicated to clusterfuck flight bookings (< 333) and it was squashed so hard to the point where teams are pretty much given flights nowadays. This works fine in TARCAN where the tasks are HARD but worked horribly in TARUS where they were then left with 2 10-minute tasks per leg they needed to stretch to somehow fill 40 minutes.
Survivor: Character-growth based editing. Nowadays all everyone cares about is BIG MOVES/RESUME/IDOLZZ/BLINDSIDES and how apparently the current state of survivor is somehow an "evolved" version. I recently read an interesting view on this on clubs about how any actual fan knows that in fact Survivor gameplay has rapidly devolved into a mess of people trying to make "big mewvz" just to be put in a much worse position/go home the next round. Australian Survivor drove it home how absolutely horrendous Survivor storytelling is as well.
Big Brother: Episodes that arent horrible and make you cringe less than once per minute (every single confessional). By far the worst edited episodes out of any reality show probably ever. BB12-BB18 is the longest dark age streak of any reality show i have ever witnessed. Back during like tar 23 i really thought the tar dark age was the worst ever but big brother has made that look like NOTHING compared to this
ANTM: The mini panel challenges. The mini panel challenges used to be SO fun. The ridiculous heels in S6, the acting in the melrose season, the "go put on an outfit" in the eva season (lol @ a 5 second panel challenge in season 3 having the same budget/concept/execution as an actual main challenge this season). What most people forget is that the ICONIQUE TYRA RAMPAGE was actually started because Tiffany gave up during the iconic teleprompter challenge. It makes me sad that panel is always just "show up, judge pics, rinse and repeat" when there used to be fun segments thrown in
The Challenge: When anyone had a shot to win. Back in the day any single person in each cast truly had a shot to win. yes, we once lived in a time where KATIE DOYLE was targetted every single opportunity possible and BEAT A MAN IN AN ELIMINATION to end up winning a season (and it was not the first time a woman beat a man in an elimination too). Now its boring because not only do people train 24/7 because the challenge is literally their only source of income, but you know that 90% of the cast literally has 0 chance to win because they dont train crossfit 24/7 and they could NEVER in a million years win a final against the 2/3 actual contenders. (like WHAT was the point of preston going on besides the appearance fee/stipend?)
Project Runway: 2 day challenges. The budget constraints on recent seasons are very transparent and a lot of challenges produce such abysmally average designs largely because the designers are given 0 time so instead they pop out either a) shit or b) something mediocre or c) glue shit on. Also theres less drama because all the designers care about anymore is finishing their shit in the ridiculously small amount of time they have instead of interacting with other designers and forming bonds/rivalries based off of them. The oldschool seasons had such fun DRAMA and the best we get nowadays are poorly manufactured bitchy characters that are so transparently artificially crafted.
wow this turned into a pretty lengthy rant-ish blog
I love ur assessments tbh and strangely don't u feel bb15 was the best of the horrible bb12-18 bunch, the racism kinda made it more raw than the other seasons which seem so vanilla
I mean I know Ciera wasn't the first person to claim big moves are the only way to go, but for me she seems to be the main reason these most recent seasons have done a giant shift to wanting big moves... I've only watched since South Pacific so like while I know that was during the shift to more strategic games but as you said now it just seems like big moves whether they are smart or not is how the producers want the show
What was wrong with BB18?! Sure the ending (final 6-ish) sucked but it was so drama-licious from beginning to final 7. From Tiffany's speech/Bronte's blindside to the fights to Michelle/Natalie/Bridgette being the season saving graces by exposing the winner-at-the-time Paulie! It just sucked once Victor came back/Michelle went home cause we all knew that Nicorey was probably winning. splozojames50
karim the racism stuff made BB15 uncomfortable for me... which makes it even sadder that it's still better than most seasons 14-18 but imo 18 has been the best out of those seasons, as NicoleF said
bowling4fun lmaoo @ "uncomfortable" ....i seriously do not think at all that the racism in bb15 is a reason to hate the season, again it made the season more raw and it was fun to watch everyone's true colors come out < 3
nicolef BB18 was really good until Michelle's boot and even after that i found natalie's sudden bitchiness fucking HILARIOUS. The end game was honestly just so bad that i cannot even consider it remotely better than BB15. BB15 had twice the fights BB18 did and the side vs side alliance was so great (i love seasons where its like good guys vs bad guys, its so funny arguing with people over what side is better). Also, i know a lot of people hate her but ginamarie was so funny and i had no issue rooting for her when it came down to it (after elissa was evicted)
Girl bye at Matt. If Candice bullying didn't make you uncomfortable that's cause you can't relate. Bb15 was a very uncomfortable negative season to me and a lot of people. Especially when you're black you can't just root for people you know deep down are racist bile pieces if shit against people like you. I'm not rooting for an ugly cunt telling people she has nigger insurance and fugly eye row rednecks flipping beds n shit. You can enjoy that but me and bowling4fun rightfully do not enjoy watching people like that potentially win half a million dollars. mattmon3365
mattmon3365 idk I'm just not a fan of watching someone get bullied cause the color of their skin. I know it's a reality show and BB is especially built upon drama but that kind of drama just doesn't sit well with me personally. I didn't say I hated the season as a whole, out of the 7 seasons I've seen (13-18) I would put it as my 3rd/4th favorite season but as everyone knows those seasons I'm general are weak
nicoleF BB18 was mediocre to me for a variety of reasons. 1) boring cast full of obvious stunt casting (but thats nothing new with recent bb seasons) 2) extremely extra twists that added pretty much nothing to the game and served as very obvious padding because the producers are not confident to have any episodes without a competition. 3) extremely obvious pecking order that which, in hindsight, was only strayed from for two weeks (one of the evictees of those two weeks returning mind you) 4) one of the worst winners in all of reality television
karim i dont love bb15, yes there was drama but what i HATED was the sheeping + mafia-esque bully alliance where once again a certain pecking order was almost never strayed from since week 3 or 4 or so. Except unlike bb18 it was never strayed from and people like Helen/Aaryn/Mccrae wasted any opportunity they had to better their positions and instead just sheeped.
knowyourself it is only good in hindsight. yes there was good drama but at the time it was by FAR the most boring and predictable season. a day 1 alliance literally all made it to the end only to lose one member in the most anti-climactic way possible (i remember matt was known as the ~cutthroat strategist~ only for him to use his dpov on kathy when he was told he was kicked out of the alliance...?)
rachel and britney were fun (at times) but that is not enough to even bring it into mediocre tier for me when every single other aspect of the season was boring
"Amazing Race: AIRPORT DRAMA. A lot of people used to complain back in the day because during its peak up to 1/3 of each episode was dedicated to clusterfuck flight bookings (< 333) " Charla & Mirna immediately came to mind.
timster i find it quite funny how mattmon3365 was ~outraged~ by the non-existent "bullying" of alecia by cydney when there was 0 empirical evidence shown via the edit (and this was before any access to any relevent exit interviews was available) but the highly documented endless actual bullying of candice is all fun drama
Amazing Race airport drama was so good and I started watching survivor for the characters/personalities/entertainment but now I'm forced to be xd strategic and treat everything like chess
timster Um...before telling me off maybe you should try to understand where i was coming from hun....the racism itself made me feel disgusted and annoyed, but when I look back I do not feel the season overall made me uncomfortable....the season had a HUGE impact on racial issues and seriously made people more aware that it is not ok to just say those type of things and get away with it. While it sucks what aaryn did to candice, there were many positives that came out of the situation which is why I do not really look back and think "BB15 as a whole made me feel extremely uncomfortable" because....Aaryn got exposed. I despise Aaryn bye....and ginamarie is an awful person but at least she was somewhat entertaining. I did not agree nor support what they both did to candice, but the season itself, YOU CANNOT EVEN DENY, was so good with all of the fighting even though some of it was extremely problematic. If you are seriously offended by me saying this, then idk what else to tell you...i just took what bowling said as "the entire BB season made me feel uncomfortable!!!" rather than "Aaryn/Amanda/GM made me feel uncomfortable"
bowling4fun See above, but i thought you meant the season as a whole not just the racism, my mistake...it just annoys me that someone would hate the season AS A WHOLE just bc of the racism when there are sooo many positives that came from all of it, and so many more people have become less ignorant and realized how wrong it was to treat people the way the bullies that season did.
splozojames50 Shut up....thats literally all you bring up in an argument is the alecia/cydney thing and HOW ON EARTH DOES THAT RELATE TO CANDICE.....THE BULLYING OF CANDICE WAS AWFUL BUT THE OVERALL FIGHTS THEMSELVES WERE QUITE HILARIOUS WHEN THEY DID NOT BECOME RACIST/PROBLEMATIC.
PLease find a specific quote of where i have EVER said that alecia was bullied by cydney...? All i said was she literally just sat there while the two annoying ass gross men sat there and picked on her the entire time and she did nothing to stick up for her or anything. And then on top of that i can go through a million other reasons why cydney was god awful pre merge, but again it seems you fall victim of not thoroughly reading what i commented and saying something that does not make sense in the situation. Used to it by now *shrugs*
