i'm scared at how close to home this actually is for me in many different ways. It's scary and historical and a big national highlight is FINALLY focused on gun violence and its happening HERE. In a Republican-dominant state. The racism here is on full display, there's no question what just happened here.
People are protesting everywhere. It's happening in my industry, this effects my lifelong career directly, as I plan to work in a school for the rest of my life. This feeling is exciting and weird and scary and it's two of the biggest topics in the nation being displayed here at home, the only one topic missing is police brutality.
This is weird and i'm actually really honestly kind of scared.

This is a requirement and you never know when its going to happen. I have texted friends on here during one to try to find out if its real or not. Because we have drills. These drills are not announced, we have no forward-warning, so sometimes when it catches you off-guard, on a bad day, or when you briefly forget that school shootings are a real and legitimate concern, it fucks with you.
i'll never forget my first one, I was walking my kids back to the classroom with their lunch trays. All of a sudden, over the intercom, we're declared on lockdown. We were in the middle of the hallway and ngl my heart sank and I got insanely cold and my heart skipped a beat, or gained a beat, idk, something happened.
And then in a few seconds you snap back to reality and you have 15 1st graders who you have to protect, but also, keep calm. I'm not a calm person under stress, but something clicks and you literally have to pretend like nothing is happening and we're just playing a fun game of "hide and seek".
I'm like legit sick at my stomach at the school shootings and the one in Nashville just has me fucked up. I know in my heart that if it came down to it, to "this person is going to hurt my kids in milliseconds", I wouldn't hesitate to attempt to block children from incoming assault. I've had to think this over multiple times, but messages of children I know kids personally asking their parents if "they would feel better if they were at home with mom and dad instead of at school" when they genuinely want to be there.
What the fuck is wrong with this world where buying an AR/AK is NOT seen as a red flag? PLEASE I DONT EVEN CARE ABOUT PISTOLS BUT WHY DOES ANYONE OUTSIDE THE MILLITARY NEED GUNS MADE FOR WHAT THEY DO; ASSAULT. SOMEONE MAKE IT MAKE SENSE CAUSE IM LOSING MY MARBLES HERE
anywhere please tell me what the purpose is of a regular ass person with no gun training what-so-ever to purchase a fucking assault rifle?!
