Repeat After Me: It\'s Just A Game

Jun 11, 2008 by umfooanoo
Admittedly, people can say I don't really buy that line.  But, it's true.  I'm not stupid, and I don't think the average player here is stupid.  There are certain patterns that can be seen.  Some of the things that have been requested . . . I know I did two of them . . . like when a person was last on the site and the top twenty have certainly changed the game from the first game I played.

And I was literally IN the FIRST game ever played here.

Since that time, in other games, the ability to deduce things have changed.  Obviously someone who hasn't said a word in two days isn't going to be popping on just to vote on other people's posts.  So it has to be someone actively participating.  Once you have figured out who that is . . . well, what you do with it sets the tone of your game.  Because of that, some games have gotten ugly.  But that's just it.  It's just a game.

I saw a pattern in a player this last game.  I hinted around about it during the game, and when I knew I was going down, I became more verbal about it.  I wasn't being targeted because I had missed a day due to a power outage.  I was targeted for a completely different reason.

I am in the top twenty players.

Top twenty players are a threat.  You would think that would make them cutthroat to one another, but it doesn't.  It makes the newbies go after us.  See, most of the top twenty have been here since day one, or two, and are sort of friends.  We want to work together and have fun.  People see that and want to get us out of the picture.  We get less karma that way and they can claw their way up the ranks.

Whatever.  Pick a strategy you feel good with.  Play it.

But just remember--there will always be someone standing around waiting to call you out if you are voting negatively for no reason.  There will always be a person who will get angry and threatening over it.  And then there will be the person who truly wants to just have fun.

No matter who you are . . . it's just a game.  How you play it is what makes it worth the trip or not.

Everybody give Umfooanoo a round of applause, seriously. She summed up what I'm trying to say. This is just a game. I can empathize with her in her situation because that is what happened to me(Paragraph 3). She handled hers a whole lot better than I did though.

Nice way of saying it, this so true.  I don't think I could have said it any better.

Good job!! I wanted to say the same thing. I've actually liked you for a long time now from your previous games even though we weren't in any together. I was in the second game. And i'm in the top 20. The top 3 actually. And that makes us a target. Everyone wants us to be evicted early on in the game. It's happening now in my current two games. Everyone is trying to come up with ways to convince others to get me out. But hopefully this newbie game will fix all of that.

I meant *rookies* game. Lol.. But to add to that, to anyone else who has something against us, if you have some sort of a problem then just don't play. We're not going anywhere. We all obviously love this game and you newbies are all out to win it instead of what the game is really about. Having fun. It really is just a game. Thanks for this umfooanoo. You summed up almost exactly everything i was going to write in my next blog. :)

I've played with that strategy before.  Let's face it, Big Brother has never been about the best person at the end.  It's been the person who has managed to get rid of their biggest threats at opportune times in order to win.  I know it sucks, and I agree.  Everyone should get their share of fun.  But the game itself is, and always has been, about evicting the people that you need to get rid of to make your chances of winning more likely.  It's why we have to evict in the first place.  Anyone that lets a person with 100 karma breeze by a nomination isn't doing a strategic move.  All those 1st places only emphasize how much of a threat you actually are to everyone else's game.  You're on the radar, and people want you off of it.

You just have to find ways to stick in the game.  Alliances, for one.  If you think you can be a high-profile player and simply win the game on personality alone, you're shark food.

Hopefully with the rookies game everyone's on a more even playing field now that everyone has shown how much of a threat they can be.

Sorry if this came across as kind of ruthless, but it's the truth.  I commend all of you in the Top 20 and you deserve to have fun games.  My advice is to have as much fun as you can before you get nominated, and have the strategy to keep you from getting evicted.
