Connecticut is safe from hate law. for now

Nov 5, 2008 by Chiku
Question 1 in CT, which would have opened the doors to gay marriage ban amendments, has been voted no, and should be safe for 20 years. yay!
on the down side:
Prop 8 was a yes and gay marriage has been banned, as well as in Florida, and in Arkansas has banned the adoption of children by same sex couples.

The US getting together, after all the hatred seen against Obama and the thought of a not white person as president, and voting for this man who seems best for our country, is amazing. We're all feeling optimistic about our future for the first time in a long while.  I feel acknowledged for my vote for the first time since i turned 18. it's amazing.

But we do have a long way to go, and I fear that this next step will divide us further than before, on even crazier lines than the last office.  But this is a very strong step in a good direction, and despite the fits of panic i feel in the wake of the election process, we're on the way to a great point where we will be able to talk intelligently to each other with respect despite race/gender/sexuality/faith/etc
But the fights along the journey are terrifying to me.

great blog, I also am happy the voted no on question 1! I just hope Obama will deliver what he promises and accepts our flag and nation anthem since he is now our leader. He should be proud of whom we are and what our forefathers did to get us here today!

I didn't realize Prop 8 in CA was a yes.......I really hate that.  And I don't use the word hate often.

I don't know the other names you posted. I am new at this. Sunny is a popular name. I guess that explains why I could not just get my first name I need to add a number.

I.. just don't understand why some people would ban gay couples adopting. Why does a persons sexuality, like, why does a person showing love to another person, mean something bad? It's love. They should be able to adopt children and raise them, it's not like it's a bad environment or anything. What are they afraid of? That everyone in the world are going to become homosexuals or something?? The world's overpopulated anyway.

I dunno Popbelly, I've heard things ranging from threatening their sexuality, which is sacred ground for a lot of people, to the thought that they're different=genetically inferior (from a evolutionary perspective)=hate
Give it time, this sexuality boundary will be broken like the color boundary is being, the sex boundary is, the faith boundary will be and the gender boundary will be.
In the meantime, don't be a dick

"In the meantime, don't be a dick", wait, are you saying I am/was being a dick!?
Sent by PopBelly,Nov 6, 2008
sorry, i made that sound wrong.
I meant in the meantime, the best we can do is accept people of every type as what we really are. human, and just like the rest of us.
That's how change is made.

You're not a dick, nor have you ever been, or any other type of genitalia for that matter.  Sorry about saying it like that, it slipped my mind.

Lmfao, it's okay, I didn't really think you meant it like that, you seem nice. And I agree about the accepting thing.

still, sorry lol

I don't get how anyone can be prejudiced over race/gender/sexuality etc. It just makes no sense. We're all human, right? It makes me feel sad inside :(

You guys dont get it.  This generation of American Voters weren't brought up as children knowing what gay marriage was.  So I guess they think.. "Why should my children be brought up this way?"  Their ignorance won't last much longer I predict in 8 years when the Youth vote overpowers the "Older" vote we will see alot more states that will allow gay marriage.
Sent by Kathreya,Nov 6, 2008
Well this year especially is a disappointment because there WAS a generation of voters that grew up with gay friends, gay parents, as homosexuals!
The youth vote has been stronger this election than any previous one, mostly because of Obama.
I agree about this not mattering in like 8 years or so and lgbt rights coming through by then, but in the mean time, damn

yeah it really sucks about the prop 8 laws here in cali, it was a good thing I got married before the the election... the attorney general said in a statement that he would fight to make sure every marriage that took place before the election would remain valid... I think it would totally be unconstitutuional for them to take away people's rights...
