#14. Rachel Plencer- Big Brother 6 (8th)
One of the most popular seasons of Big Brother to date is Big Brother 6. This era of the series is right when the show was starting to be formed. New strategies were being created, the show had officially decided which rules and formats would be the backbone to the show, and the characters were getting as out there as ever. With all of this taking place, season 6 brought the first twist to the show that affected EVERY SINGLE HOUSEGUEST. This unnamed twist is similar to blood vs. water on Survivor but if no one knew who was each others loved ones. Each houseguest had one close relationship with another houseguest before joining the game.
In this season we had some of the most popular Big Brother contestants the series had ever seen within Janelle, Howie, Kaysar (gag), and James. However this season was a battle of the alliances and was more based on challenge wins and power rather than strategy and brains. Rachel Plencer however is one houseguest that had the brains to think on her feet, and was good at challenges to guarantee safety.
When it got down to the top 5 in the game it was a battle of the sides with Beau, April, Jennifer, Ivette, and Maggie on one side, Janelle, Howie, Kaysar, and Rachel on the other with James kind of being a misfit in the middle. Rachel was the brains behind the loved side of the house and could have been the glue to the group had she not been evicted in 8th place. Although I love Janelle and Howie they kind of ran around like idiots not knowing what to do besides be fierce ass bitches and belittle the other houseguests. Rachel was somewhat of the parent of the group making sure that they kept their cool.
The reason Rachel was robbed was because of all of the above but also because she could have won the game had Howie been taken out instead of her. Up until her eviction, Rachel was actually tied for most competition wins. She could have gotten her side back with the numbers by having James, Janelle and herself as a final 3 alliance and probably the strongest competition threats within their season. The only reason she isn't higher is because she was filled with a cast that she really could have persuaded to keep her and she wasn't quite able to.
I think that her biggest downfall was having Howie as her partner. He had a lot of destructive behavior and that was starting to reflect on Rachel, who was seen more as his mother who should be controlling him than a friend.
I think the other alliance knew that she was a bigger threat and would be harder to get out in the long run than Howie so I think he is the biggest reason she was out, but I think you're right that she could have possibly saved herself.
