This next season had a pretty controversial next to last tribal council but it's not the first one that you would think of like people guessed. This season is:
GABON!
I think this could be another controversial ranking considering a lot of people around here like Gabon. This season on the positive side was probably one of the biggest clusterfucks in survivor history. I mean the very first episode was pretty good and a bit crazy. We saw a schoolyard pick, tribes having to climb an insanely steep hill. On top of that, Fang makes a crazy move in the very first tribal council to vote off Michelle instead of Gillian. What made this an even worse vote was that Gillian was voted out the very next tribal council. Exile Island was also pretty interesting this season with the choice of clue vs. comfort which correct me if I'm wrong was the first time they offered that option. The storyline for Ken was also very good. He's one of the few players, possibly the only to go from the underdog nerd to the hero then to the cocky villain all in one season. The falling of not only Ace but the Onion Alliance was also exciting. Who would've expected Sugar to ask for the HII from Ace to vote him out just because she was easily manipulated by Ken. Then in the fake merge, Charlie blocks Ken from getting a HII which Marcus tosses in the ocean, only to be voted out that same episode. Let's not forget the clusterfuck of a final 4 where Sugar plays to lose basically to 2 honorable people and decides to fuck everything up by voting out Matty instead of Bob. Also it was nice that this season played into the country it was in with Gabon being Earth's last eden.
This season had a nice set of positives but had a couple negatives that probably bothered me more than most people. First off, with the exception of Ken convincing Sugar to flip on Ace, I thought this was a pretty poorly played strategic season. Think about it. There were no really smart decisions here. One of the highlights was tricking Randy into using a fake idol. To me that's a negative if a season's highlight is a fake idol play because it's not real survivor play rather than just a fun prank for the people still in the game. I also found most of the people in the cast to be unrootable. Seriously there was a big lack of options of actually wanting somebody to win this season. Ken was the hero turned villain, Sugar was just flaunting and not giving a fuck, Bob got carried by Sugar, Susie barely got an edit and Matty didn't really come off as rootable either. To me it's a nice bonus in a season when you actually care about who's going to win. I really didn't feel that way this season. Also the season's ending was a little disappointing with no one there that played that great of a game to me.
All in all, it's possible this season might've went overkill on being a clusterfuck for me. Fun to watch during some moments but when you really start to think of what went on, you see the season's flaws more clearly.
