SURVIVOR: DYNAMIC DUOS 2 Episode 8

imagePREVIOUSLY ON SURVIVOR: Ricard, Bret, and Ken celebrated their move to get out Tony. “He’s a huge player,” Ken said, “And now I think all of us have a significantly better shot in this game without him here.” However, Sarah knew she was in some danger and approached Ricard. “Listen, I know we were at odds in this vote, but I still hope we can maybe work together in the future,” she said. Sarah knew she had to be extra remorseful or she would be the obvious next boot. “I want you all to trust me, and I hope without Tony here, you can,” she said.

At the immunity challenge, the tribes saw that Tony was voted out and cheered. “He’s a huge threat,” Wendell said, “I’m honored to have played with him twice, but I’m glad I don’t need to play with him any further.” The tribes competed in their next challenge, paddling canoes through a series of water mazes, retrieving flags that they would then assemble to form a flag arch and win immunity. It was revealed that only ONE team would win, and the other two would each vote somebody off. Immediately, led by Wendell, the Peanut Butter tribe sailed through the mazes with ease, with the Jam tribe slightly behind thanks to Sarah and Ricard. Unfortunately, Bret was struggling with his paddle. The Jelly tribe was also a mess, with communication issues all around. Peanut Butter tribe finished the challenge with ease, sending both other tribes to tribal council.

At the Jelly beach, it was clear cut that Hali was the swing vote. “I know that Lauren and David are likely targeting Christine and Christine and Stacey are likely targeting David,” Hali said, “So it’s really just a matter of where I decide to land.” David pitched his game to Hali saying that since Kelley and Lauren were both still there, that would be 3 whole allies to join Hali and Jenn. “If the five of us link up at the merge,” David said, “We’re unstoppable.” Hali understood this pitch, but also knew that if it came down to five, the three would easily outnumber the two in the minority. Hali talked to Christine who also pitched her case and told her to follow her heart, but she would always stick by Hali in the future. “I’m not gonna dance around it,” she said, “I need your vote and I will literally do anything to repay it.”

At tribal council, the tribe all knew what the stakes were and decided to just get right to the vote. Lauren and David voted for Christine while Christine and Stacey voted for David. Like Hali predicted, she was right in the middle and voted out David, seeing the trio of David, Kelley, and Lauren as more of a threat than an asset. “I tried my best,” David said. Lauren was upset, but was relieved she would make it another day to potentially regroup with Kelley.

On the Jam beach, Bret, Ricard, and Ken seemed set on going for Sarah. “She’s someone you don’t want around in the merge,” Bret said. Ricard, however, had plans of his own. “My game in Survivor 41 came down to me having to win every challenge because I was the biggest threat,” he said, “I can’t afford to be the biggest threat and I know having people like Bret and Kenny around, I’m always going to stick out more.” Ricard approached Sarah and asked if she’d be willing to go into a fire making challenge. Sarah was nervous, knowing how her last fire making challenge against Tony in Winners at War fared. “Honestly, you have no real other choice because Bret and Kenny are 100% voting for you and I’m probably the only chance you have of possibly staying,” Ricard put it bluntly. Sarah went and practiced fire. “I don’t even know if I’m gonna send her to fire at all, but I want her to be prepared because I do think it might be in my best interest to surround myself with bigger threats,” he said.

Bret could tell something was a bit off with Sarah’s demeanor and decided to ask Ricard if the plan was still on. “As of now, yes,” Ricard said, to which Bret got a weird feeling. “The guy really does show his cards more than he thinks,” Bret said to camera, “And I just have the gut feeling that Kenny or I could be in trouble.” Bret approached Kenny and said he was worried that Ricard was going to flip. “What if we vote Ricard tonight?” Bret asked. Kenny didn’t know if that was the best move. “He’s got Shan on the other side, and there’s a chance he’s gonna vote me out,” he said. Ken thought Bret was just being over paranoid, but he told him he’d consider it.

At tribal council, Bret said that things seemed fine until later in the day. Ricard said that while the vote seemed clear cut, he also knew that you can’t rule out all options. Sarah said she was extremely nervous and said “I know going into this morning I had a 1% chance of staying. I’m going to pray to the Survivor gods that I am at least given the opportunity to make fire.” After the vote, Bret got two votes from Ricard and Sarah, and he gave Ricard a “I knew you were gonna do that” look. However, the big blindside came when Kenny and Bret voted for Ricard instead of Sarah, shocking both Ricard and Sarah. “What just happened?” Sarah said. Ricard was stunned, but knew he probably had to make fire. Kenny and Sarah revoted, with Sarah sticking to Ricard’s loyalty and Kenny once again voting for Ricard, sending it to a fire making challenge. Ricard was completely unprepared. “I didn’t think I’d be the one facing Bret in fire today, but good on him for pulling the fast one on me,” he said. The two made fire, and Bret got a spark first, but couldn’t get a flame as quick as Ricard. Ricard’s fire burned highest, and ultimately cut the rope first, sending Bret home as the last pre-juror. Ricard and Bret shook hands, commending each other on their big moves. “We both tried to outsmart each other, and I give you props brother,” Bret said. Bret was happy with the game he played. The tribes then found out they were MERGED!
